Building Love in Seasons of Emotional Instability

Another unhealthy period to build a romantic relationship is when you are emotionally unstable. Mourning a loss. Nurturing a deep hurt. Carrying disappointments. Walking through seasons of pain, rejection, or confusion. These moments leave the heart fragile. And when the heart is fragile, it does not choose wisely. It clings.
In seasons of emotional instability, people do not fall in love. They fall into comfort. They do not pursue connection; they pursue relief. And relief can look like love until the wounds begin to heal and clarity returns. When you are grieving, hurting, or broken, you are more likely to attach to anyone who offers warmth, attention, or understanding. Not because they are right for you, but because they make the pain feel lighter. And what begins as consolation can quietly become emotional dependence. Pain lowers discernment. Hurt clouds judgment. Disappointment weakens boundaries. In such seasons, the heart is looking for safety, not compatibility. It is looking for healing, not partnership.
A relationship built in emotional instability often carries unresolved baggage into its foundation. And when healing comes, you may realize you built something out of survival, not intention.
The best time to build love is when you are emotionally whole, not when you are emotionally desperate. When your heart is steady, your mind is clear, and your wounds are healing. Love should meet you in strength, not rescue you in weakness.
